  • Which images in the film made the most impression on you? Why?
    • How do you respond to the following images in the film:
    • The women's excitement at having a water pipe in their village?
    • The meeting of the Bank's Board of Directors?
    • The woman's explanation of the flower-picking trade?
  • The Bible study for this week focuses on Exodus 1 and 2 – the birth of Moses into an exiled and oppressed people. Do other Bible passages come to your mind when you reflect on the situation of Dalit women?  Which ones?
    • Who are the outcast people in your local community?
    • What structures/ attitudes keep them oppressed?
    • Who is working in solidarity with them?
    • How are they working to liberate themselves?
    • What could you do to help?

Bible Study Discussion Questions

  • Are there ways that we sacrifice the lives of others for the “gods” of our lives? 
    • The way Pharaoh was willing to throw the Hebrew babies into the river to pacify the River Goddess, Hapi.
    • What are these “gods” in our lives? 
  • Are there places in our life where we didn’t see God’s plan and then God brought something miraculous out of something that seemed insignificant?
    • Are there places where we still don’t see God’s plan?
    • Where we are taking small steps of faith, with the expectation that God will use those steps?
  • The Egyptians fear that they are being overrun by the Hebrews.  Are there parallels in our society?  Who are the people that we see as a threat to “our” way of life? 
    • Where do we see the Exodus story in our own lives?
    • What little ways are we acting to lessen oppression, either as oppressors or as those oppressed?
    • Are there ways that we can take a step of faith against oppression?  Knowing that God will go the rest of the way.
